Writing a book is a labour of love. It took me more than a year of writing, months of editing & revising and the manuscript is now finally a book. Even though this is my 7th book, the excitement is still palpable. So many have helped me make this possible and I am thankful to all.
This book is about people who had several lessons in leadership to teach me. People whom the world usually fails to notice or consider important. This book is about their extraordinary acts of leadership and is testimony to how everyone has a role to play in making this world a better place.
From an idea to a manuscript to a book is a journey of a thousand steps. From inspiring me to write this book to looking at the final proof, my wife Bindu showed enormous patience in putting up with me throughout this journey. From friends like Lijo Chacko, Sangeeta Menon and Hanumanth who edited the book to Ramesh Venkat, Praveen and Sudarshan who proof read it, several contributed quietly in ensuring that the book is what it is today. A book without a publisher is like trying to build a house without a foundation. I thank GRAAM and India Leaders for Social Sector for co-publishing this book. I must particularly thank Bhagawan, Shilpa and Basavaraju at GRAAM and Anu Prasad at ILSS for their support throughout the publishing process.
I have always considered myself fortunate to engage and interact constantly with young people. Whether it was my earlier books or this, all the illustrations came from the hands of talented young people. Georgina Perriera worked her magic and drew the cover to sync with the theme of the book. The idea of the geese came from Hanumanth and is perfectly aligned with the message inside. In today’s world of social media and information overload, merely writing the book is no longer enough. The world needs to hear of it too. And Sukrit helped me out in ensuring this and prepared such wonderful short videos and posters that I could use.
What the book needs is the encouragement and support from readers like you. I am sure you will help make this book as successful as my earlier ones. Both the print and Kindle editions of the book are available on Amazon and I would like to request you to buy them. Needless to say, all the proceeds from the book will go towards furthering the development and policy research efforts of GRAAM.
Pl do join me in the launch of my 7th book on Sept 18. Your presence will be a delight and an honour.
